Why do we have to fight for our young peoples rights?

I would like to thank Lawrence & Life with Autisim for the recent help with my battle for funding for a residential placement for my Son .. Why do we have to fight with mindless people..?
After my recent rejection of a funding application, my heart sank to the floor .. I had to muster up the energy to commence our fight again.. fighting shadows.. I was directed to this website & spoke with Lawrence who was a wealth of information, and filled me full of fight and made me realise that `We are not alone` ... So following his guidance, and encouragement to stand up for our young ones - we did get the funding & my Son will be secure for his future life,
Thank you xxx

Brilliant and well done Sheila. The history of all our struggles is to be deplored in the 21st Century. However, Ashley will be secure and happy, and is within easy reach and will be looked after properly, rest assured.

Congratulations Sheila, I am glad everything worked out for the best for you and for your son. It is the same worldwide at the moment, our systems work on the "crisis model" and parents have to be at the point of relinquishment before they are offered some assistance. As the grandparent of two children with high functioning autism, and also being a Social Worker and working with children in fostercare, I see how my daughter has to fight for years to get an education for her son, while our Government throws millions of dollars into supporting Carers and children who have been relinquished. I can't help wondering why these supports could not be put in place for the parents, and why parents have to go through such anguish to get their child's basic needs met! Well done for persevering.
