Throughout our son's life his behviour ranged from the most 'cuddlesome' to the most 'challenging'. Not that he wrecked the home, but that he never ever slept for more than an hour or two in any night. My job clearly suffered after my wife was unable to cope with his increasing size s I became the main carer. He continued, as he aged, to have the most amazing smile and sense of humour. Far more developed than many so-called 'normal' people I have known in my 60+ years. But what I never, ever, knew possible, despite the fact that as we grew older we were killing ourselves looking after him, was that there were people out there that could replace our love and affection we so obviously have for him. When he 'left us' he quickly settled into his new home and became the recipient of a wonderful loving and caring home that, when we left him after visiting the first few months, I particularly, and of course his mum, cried our eyes out.
I still cry my eyes out when I leave him, but he is now resident in the type of caring home, that God forbid, when I kick ass and am too old to look after myself, I would be happy to stay in.
Tell me your thoughts.
